Asa, Judah, and many of Israel, moved by Azariah's prophecy, make a solemn covenant with God (15:1-15) Asa removes Maachah, his mother, from serving as queen, because of her idolatry (15:16-17) He brings dedicated things into the house of God, and enjoys a long peace (15:18-19)

Chapter 16


Asa, in league with Syria, diverts Baasha from building Ramah (16:1-6) Being reproved for this by Hanani, Asa imprisons him (16:7-10) Asa is diseased but seeks physicians rather than God (16:11-12) His death and burial (16:13-14)

Joash reigns well, all the days of Jehoiada (24:1-3) He gives orders for the repair of the temple (24:4-14) Jehoiada's death and honorable burial (24:15-16) Joash falls into idolatry (24:17-20) And slays Zechariah, the son of Jehoiada (24:21-22) Joash is pillaged by the Syrians, and slain by Zabad and Jehozabad (24:23-26) Amaziah succeeds him (24:27)

Chapter 25


Amaziah begins to reign well (25:1-2) He executes justice on the traitors (25:3-4) Amaziah hires an army of Israelites (25:5-6) A prophet persuades him to discharge them (25:7-10) He overthrows the Edomites (25:11-12) The Israelites, discontented at being dismissed, loot as they return home (25:13) Amaziah, proud of his victory, serves the gods of Edom, scoffing at advice from the prophet (25:14-16) He provokes Joash, causing his own overthrow (25:17-24) The reign of Amaziah (25:25-26) He is slain by conspiracy (25:27-28)

Chapter 28


Ahaz reigns wickedly and is afflicted by Syria (28:1-5) Oded the prophet brings about release of the children of Judah (28:6-15) Ahaz sends to Assyria for aid but to no avail (28:16-21) In his distress he grows more idolatrous (28:22-25) At his death Hezekiah succeeds him (28:26-27)

Chapter 29


Hezekiah's good reign (29:1-2) He restores worship of God (29:3-4) He exhorts the Levites (29:5-11) They sanctify themselves and cleanse the house of God (29:12-19) Hezekiah offers solemn sacrifices (29:20-36)

Chapter 30


Hezekiah proclaims a solemn passover, on the second month, for Judah and Israel (30:1-5) Letters are sent (30:6-12) The assembly, having destroyed the altars of idolatry, keep the feast fourteen days (30:13-26) The priests and Levites bless the people (30:27)

Chapter 31


The people work eagerly in destroying idolatry (31:1) Hezekiah orders the courses of the priest and Levites, and provides for their work and maintenance (31:2-4) The people's generosity in offerings and tithes (31:5-10) Hezekiah appoints officers to dispose of the tithes (31:11-19) The sincerity of Hezekiah (31:20-21)

Chapter 32


As Sennacherib invades Judah, Hezekiah builds fortifications and encourages his people (32:1-8) Sennacherib's blasphemous messages and letters (32:9-20) An angel destroys the Assyrian host, to the glory of Hezekiah (32:21-23) Hezekiah prays in his sickness and God gives him a sign of recovery (32:24) Growing proud, he is humbled by God (32:25-26) His wealth and works (32:27-30) The embassy from Babylon (32:31) At his death Manasseh succeeds him (32:32-33)

Chapter 33

Chapter 35
